IHEA – Safety Standards and Codes Seminar


The Industrial Heating Equipment Association will be holding their annual “Safety Standards and Codes for Industrial Furnaces” seminar in Chicago on Monday March 7th and Tuesday March 8th.

Of the nine speakers, eight serve as industry experts on the NFPA-86 technical committee (the committee responsible for the content of the standard). Surface Combustion’s Mark Stender is scheduled to speak on Class “C” furnaces as he has done since 1995. Mark just celebrated his thirty-fifth year at Surface and has served on the NFPA-86 technical committee since 1998.

This years’s seminar will cover the just released 2011 edition of NFPA-86 “Standards for Ovens and Furnaces” with emphasis on changes from the 2007 edition.

The seminar will cover:

  • Class A, B, & C Furnaces
  • PLC Based SafetySystems
  • Pulse Fired Burner Systems
  • Safety Shutoff Valves
  • Purge and Re-start of Burner Systems
  • Calculation Methods for LFL (Lower Flammable Limits)
  • Loss Prevention
  • Product Liability
  • Enforcement
  • Insurer Perspectives

As a bonus this year’s seminar will also cover the first edition of NFPA-87 “Recommended Practice for Fluid Heaters”.
