Surface Combustion pleased to receive Governor Bob Taft
Maumee, Ohio…Surface Combustion was pleased to receive the Governor of the State of Ohio, Bob Taft, and a delegation at its corporate headquarters and R&D facility located in Maumee, Ohio on October 22, 2002. The delegation included numerous staff personnel as well as television, radio and newspaper media.
Surface’s President & CEO, William J. Bernard, Jr., and the company’s employees warmly greeted the governor. During the tour of the facilities, the delegation was presented an overview of Surface’s long history in designing and manufacturing of diverse thermal processing technologies used worldwide. While the governor was at Surface, he was given first hand reviews of in-house projects in Surface’s engineering department, as well as tours of Surface’s controls laboratory and R&D section where Surface’s patent pending VringCARBTM vacuum carburizing process was explained. The Governor also received a first hand observation of the ion-nitriding process.
Surface Combustion was chosen for the tour by the governor’s office because of its long-standing support for Governor Taft’s exporting initiatives. Surface Combustion won the Governor’s “E” Award for Excellence in Exporting in 1999. Along with this award, Surface Combustion has recently participated in trade missions with the governor to Europe, more specifically to Germany in April on this year.
After touring Surface’s facility, Governor Taft told the employees that small high-tech companies with high paying jobs are the future he hopes to build on. “You are a great example for the rest of the state”, he said.
